In the name of the King

Historian and popular writer Vlastimil Vondruška writes, among other things, readable, dramatic and mysterious detective stories set in the Middle Ages. They have won great acclaim from readers for their verisimilitude, atmosphere, fast-paced plot and suspense. We have selected one of them - The Fatal Tournament (published as part of the Murder in the Ambit trilogy), which was also filmed under the title In the Name of the King, starring Karel Roden.

The main hero of the story is Oldřich of Chlum, the royal procurator of Přemysl II. Otakar and the administrator of Bezděz Castle. On behalf of his sovereign, he travels to Vartemberk Castle, where the ceremonial engagement of the Knight Benes of Dubá is to take place... and the thrilling plot begins.

The reading was offered by director Jindřiška Nováková to the excellent narrators, Vladislav Beneš and Alois Švehlík. The musical accompaniment was provided by Daniel Tůma.
