Indian summer
Marta Dzido's short story collection in many ways follows on from her previous collection, Jahodová sezóna (Strawberry Season) (2021), as well as her award-winning debut, Slast (Pleasure) (2018). Although the author's focus shifts to the Indian summer of life, she is once again not afraid to open up many social taboos. The heroines of these carefully crafted short stories talk about ageing bodies, traumas, and the scars that shape who we are in old age, about strong friendships, female solidarity, and the liberating return to oneself. And all the protagonists have one thing in common: they are able to stand their ground and strive for self-determination at different stages of their lives. Their stories intertwine into a fascinating account of female physicality, memory, emancipation, and freedom.
