What is the mysterious man with suitcases full of scientific instruments hiding?

A radio dramatisation of the famous novel starring Josef Vinklář, Oldřich Vlach and other great actors. On a bleak day, the strange scientist Charles Griffin checks into the remote inn owned by Mr and Mrs Hall. He only leaves his room after dark and never takes off his black coat, black scarf, dark glasses, or the hat pulled down low over his forehead. And he doesn't let anyone look him straight in the face. The helper, Tom, is frightened to death right after the mysterious guest's arrival. What he saw defies common sense: when the scientist took a cup of tea from him in his room, he extended only an empty sleeve towards Tom. There was nothing between the sleeve and the cup, yet the cup didn't smash.
Who is this mysterious man? A magician, an escaped criminal, or perhaps the devil's associate?
