Iron Maiden's seventeenth studio album offers more than 80 minutes of music. The band recorded it in a similar way to the previous The Book Of Souls, with producer Kevin Shirley in the French Guillaume Tell Studio, in a former cinema space where the high ceilings allow for unique acoustics. The album contains several very complex tracks, which took a lot of time to complete and a really sensitive approach from producer Kevin Shirley, who worked with Iron Maiden on albums such as The Final Frontier, Dance Of Death, A Matter Of Life And Death, Brave New World or the aforementioned The Book Of Souls. The basis of the recording, which is very varied and contains several songs that sound quite different from the usual Iron Maiden style, was made during a break on the Legacy Tour. This time, the band looked for inspiration in the East, which is also reflected in the completely new look of the mascot Eddie, who was given the form of a samurai by illustrator Mark Wilkinson.
