Jack Reacher: Without Fail
Protecting the fourth most guarded person on this planet from assassination isn't difficult. It's practically impossible. In short, a job for Reacher!
Five years after leaving the army, former Major Jack Reacher, a recipient of the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, is a homeless drifter with no permanent job. But for a man of his abilities, someone always has a use. For example, M.E. Froelich, the former girlfriend of Reacher's deceased brother Joe, who now works for the United States Secret Service. She hires him to prevent an announced attack on the American Vice President. The renowned lone wolf takes his task seriously, calling in security expert Frances Neagley, who served with him in the military police. However, their final verdict doesn't please Froelich or her superior, Stuyvesant: eliminating the threat of a successful assassination is virtually impossible if its architect has sufficient experience, resources, and determination. Nevertheless, they must try, as threatening letters are piling up, and Vice President-elect Brook Armstrong, a charismatic young senator from North Dakota, immediately wins their sympathy. Will they uncover the assassins before they carry out their diabolical plan?
The sixth case for the wandering protector of justice with a big heart and even bigger muscles takes him to Washington, D.C., where the former military policeman, after a long time, once again experiences the advantages and pitfalls of teamwork in government service.

Lee Child
(* 1954) A native of Coventry, UK – real name Jim Grant – he graduated from law school in Sheffield but chose a career in public relations over law. His media career culminated in the position of programme director at Granada Television in Manchester, part of the UK's ITV network. When he was made redundant during a company restructuring in 1995, he began freelancing, writing novels in the style of American thrillers, which he believes represent the 'purest form of entertainment'. For his book Killing Floor (1997, Cz. 1999), the first in the series about the retired military policeman Jack Reacher, he won the Anthony Award for best debut. He has lived in the USA ever since and was elected president of the Mystery Writers of America in 2009. 27 novels from the Reacher series have been published in Czech by BB/art. The ninth volume, One Shot (2005), and the eighteenth, Never Go Back (2014, Cz. 2015), were adapted into films (2012 and 2016) starring Tom Cruise. A further 16 cases have been portrayed in two TV mini-series (2022–2023). In early 2020, the writer announced that the series would be gradually taken over by his younger brother Andrew (* 1968), who is credited as co-author on the twenty-fifth story, titled The Sentinel.
