Jethro Tull: This Was

LP Record In 1968, this album was released by a band that, at the time, was only known to insiders. They had gained a modest reputation on the island thanks to their live performances and an unusual line-up – after all, where else in rock music would you find a flute? The debut from the first incarnation of Jethro Tull (as Ian Anderson says today: We were a little blues band) sounded sensational and exciting back then. Even today – 46 years later – this record still has its charm, although it was very much a product of the blues boom of the era. However, you can hear the genius of their later work in songs like "My Sunday Feeling" (still a live classic), "Serenade To A Cuckoo", and of course, "A Song For Jeffrey" (which they also played at the Stones' Rock and Roll Circus).
