Jiří Fried: Summer in Altamira
Jiří Fried (1923-1999) called Summer in Altamira, a story about a boyhood friendship in the period just before the Second World War, is set in a small town in the Czech-German border region. It is a setting that the author knew well. He himself grew up in Prachatice, from where his family had to flee after 1938. Thus, the time of childhood, to which Jiří Fried returned in his other prose works (for example, in the novella Pověst), ended forever. The atmosphere of the town, whose ancient streets hide many mysteries, was masterfully portrayed by the author, as well as the changes in interpersonal relations in the era of the rising fascism. They read: Lukáš Hlavica and David Novotný.
