Jiří Pejša: Memories in White

A kindly account of the medical craft of the "foot soldier" of medicine. But it is also a testimony to the time and place in Šumava in the 1950s. Jiří Pejša (*1912) started as a district doctor in Železná Ruda after the war. His memoir takes you back in time almost seventy years to the Šumava border region. The author not only started there, but later also worked as a doctor for a quarter of a century. His authentic recollection is a testimony to the conditions of a rural doctor-practitioner at that time. And also a confession to the region, to the people there, and to the medical mission.
