Jiri Weil: Moscow-Borders
The novel Moscow - The Frontier describes the horrifying decay of character, individuality and human dignity in Soviet society of the 1930s. It is based on the authentic testimony of the author Jiří Weil, which no one wanted to believe and which influenced his whole life. In the novel, Weil writes about the atmosphere of the Stalinist purges in the Soviet Union in the 1930s. However, the book does not look back at the Terror, but was first published in 1937. This was after Weil returned from a year-long exile at Lake Balkhash, where he had been sent by the Soviet authorities. In its time, the book provoked fierce controversy and resentment, especially among leftist intellectuals. It was also condemned by Julius Fučík and it was not published again until 1991. It reads: Miroslav Wednesday.
