Joy Division: Closer - LP

Joy Division formed in 1976 in the English town of Salford, near Manchester. The foursome of Ian Curtis (vocals), Bernard Sumner (guitar, keyboards), Peter Hook (bass), and Stephen Morris (drums) originally called themselves Warsaw.

Joy Division's music grew from punk roots, and to this day the group is considered the most distinctive and influential post-punk band of the late seventies and early eighties. Joy Division recorded two studio albums, ending their activity in 1980 when singer Ian Curtis committed suicide. From the ashes of Joy Division, another important icon of British music was later born, the band New Order.
