Karel Schulz: Stone and Pain

The gripping life story of sculptor, painter and poet Michelangelo Buonarroti, one of the geniuses of the Italian Renaissance. The seven introductory chapters will be followed by the central part of the monumental novel (In the Gardens of Medici) and an unfinished fragment, published posthumously under the title The Pope's Mass. The work is a massive fresco that captures vertically and horizontally the very spiritual and political essence of the Renaissance world. A characteristic stylistic and compositional feature of the novel is the dialogue and inner monologue and the recurring "refrain" motifs that intensify the effect of the prose.
