Kincugi
Kincugi is a Japanese method of repairing broken porcelain using powdered gold. Day by day, week by week, step by step, the object is purified, cared for, repaired and finally enriched with gold. It is not just a method of repairing porcelain, but an increasingly widespread therapeutic method used metaphorically to heal people.
" Legend has it that Shogun Yoshimasa Ashikaga (1435–1490) always used his favourite bowl (chawan) during the tea ceremony. But one day it broke. So he sent it to China, where it came from, to have it repaired. However, he was very disappointed with the result. After many months, he returned the bowl repaired with ugly metal hooks that not only disfigured it, but were also not leak proof. He therefore commissioned his Japanese artists to find a different, more effective and, above all, more aesthetic solution. And so the art of kincugi was born. "
" It is even said that the art of kincugi is so highly prized that some aesthetes deliberately break their vases or bowls just so they can have them redone. Without having to break all of your precious objects, you can be inspired by the philosophy of kincugi on the path to your own healing and go so far as to find your own unity and your own radiance. You yourself, as a living kincugi, can change and become stronger through your experiences. "
