This new release joins the existing range of compilations of various focuses and lengths, successfully summarising the singer's extraordinary artistic career on a carefully curated single CD and LP.
From great singles of the 1960s to tracks from the album Songy a balady and her best recordings from the post-1989 era, you can listen all the way to this year's newly recorded vocal version of Modlitba pro Martu.
With the singer's blessing, the songs were selected by pianist, composer and bandleader Petr Malásek, her long-time collaborator and an expert on her repertoire. He is also behind this year's studio version of Modlitba, which features a majestic arrangement with a full orchestra and new vocals recorded after more than fifty years by a mature lady who has weathered many of life's challenges.
The message of this compilation album highlights the essential artistic and personal uniqueness of Marta Kubišová, supported by a number of songs with social impact and importance. Although the cruel twists of fate cost her almost twenty years of a flourishing career, her importance to Czech and Slovak popular music remains unquestionable – and this album lets you hear exactly why.
