It is widely considered one of the best hard rock albums of all time. It was recorded during a hectic period when the band was touring extensively.
Led Zeppelin's second album was recorded during their first American tour, which heavily influenced its content. As the band didn't have much time to work in the studio, it predominantly features reworked blues and rock tracks that they had been playing at their concerts. The need to record quickly is also reflected in the more direct sound of the new material, which is much heavier and rawer than the tracks on their debut album.
This is particularly true for songs like "Whole Lotta Love", "The Lemon Song", and "Heartbreaker". The only exceptions are the two acoustic tracks, "Thank You" and "Ramble On". Although the second album is stylistically less diverse and more hard-rock and heavy-metal oriented than the previous LP, it ranks among the most influential albums of all time, having inspired hundreds of musical successors.
