He did not have an easy childhood, his father (Alfred Lennon, ship steward) left the family very soon after his birth, his mother (Julia Lennon) entrusted little John to her sister (Mary Elizabeth “Mimi“ Smith) and tragically died when he was eighteen. John Lennon was marked by this event for the rest of his life. He had two half-sisters. From the age of seven, he invented poems, and he was an avid reader of short stories, accompanied by his own drawings. In 1952, John Lennon entered Quarry Bank High School, began playing the guitar, and later formed the first skiff band, The Quarrymen, with friend Pete Shotton.

The history of The Beatles began in 1956, when John Lennon met Paul McCartney on a pilgrimage in Woolton, England, and introduced him to his band as a guitarist. This moment creates the most famous musical connection of all time - Lennon / McCartney. Lennon and McCartney then start collaborating on songwriting, writing about one hundred of them in the first two years of collaboration.

John Lennon in 1964:
John Lennon did not enjoy his studies and so he transferred to the College of Art, where he met Stuart Sutcliff, whom he brought to the group, then renamed Johnny and the Moondogs, later The Silver Beetles and in 1960 definitely The Beatles. On August 23, 1962, John Lennon married his art school classmate Cynthia Powell, and on April 8, 1963, their son John Charles Julian Lennon was born. In March 1964, Lennon published his first book, In His Own Write, which became a bestseller almost overnight. A year later, he published another book, A Spaniard in the Works.

John Lennon was a rebel all his life, on March 4, 1966, in a interview, he remarked that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ, a wave of resistance broke out, and radio stations in the United States were boycotting Beatles music. The year 1966 is also important for his personal life - on November 9, he meets the love of his life, the controversial Japanese artist Yoko Ono. Two years later, he divorces his wife Cynthia, and on March 20, 1969, he marries Yoko Ono in Gibraltar.

1969 is a critical year for the Beatles. John Lennon begins to lead Yoko Ono on the recording, which is mainly protested by Paul McCartney. John Lennon throws himself into solo projects, with Yoko Ono he recorded the album Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgines, on the packaging of which both are naked, so the gramophone record must be sold in a paper bag. Lennon and Yoko form the Plastic Ono Band and begin to become politically involved and protest against the wars. They organize peaceful happenings, the most famous - Bed In - took place in May 1969 in Montreal. The newlyweds Lennon spent 8 days in bed, calling for peace, holding peace parties and together with friends (e. g. Timothy Leary) recorded the cult song Give Peace a Chance today.

In 1970, the Beatles officially disbanded. A year later, the Lennon family moved permanently to the United States and settled in the Dakota House in New York. Lennon releases the album Imagine. In the United States, John Lennon has problems with the immigration office due to earlier drug trafficking. In 1976, Lennon receives a “green card“.

On October 9, 1975, Yoko Ono gave birth to the only common child, Sean Ono and Taro Lennon. After the birth of his son, Lennon takes a break and shuts himself down from the outside world, devoting himself only to the child. In August 1980, after six years, he began composing music and recording songs again. From these recordings, two albums will be created - Double Fantasy (1980) and Milk and Honey (1984).

On December 8, 1980, Lennon was assassinated. He was shot in front of the gate of his New York apartment by the mentally ill Mark David Chapman, to whom he had signed his new album Double Fantasy a few hours earlier. He died on the way to the hospital. After his death, many theories arose about the fake murder and Lennon, who lives somewhere in the Pacific on a remote island. Lennon' s widow, Yoko Ono, still lives in Dakota House today.

Lennon' s songs (e. g. Imagine, Strawberry Fields Forever) are often ranked among the best songs in music history. In 2002, the British radio station BBC held a poll of the 100 greatest Britons in history.
