Life of Adele - DVD

This romantic yet raw chronicle of pleasure, pain, and passion centres on the relationship between sixteen-year-old Adele from a lower-middle-class background and the more experienced, worldly, blue-haired fine arts student, Emma. It follows their incredibly intense connection, full of immediacy, sensuality, impulsive behaviour, and tenderness.

From the singular French-Tunisian director Abdellatif Kechiche, the film is a lesbian (and sexually explicit) variation on the archetypal story of an all-consuming first love – loosely inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Julie Maroh and the sentimental novel The Life of Marianne by the French moralist Pierre de Marivaux.

The phenomenal performances by Léa Seydoux and the then almost unknown Adèle Exarchopoulos ultimately inspired the jury to award the highest prize – the Palme d'Or – to the director and both of his muses.
