The third installment of the adventure saga set in early medieval England, which became the basis for the successful television series The Last Kingdom
Uhtred of Bebbanburg has much to celebrate after his victory at the Battle of Ethandun: The chicas of the enemy raiders were scattered and Alfred's kingdom of Wessex survived in no small part because of him. But the hard-hearted young man has not forgotten the wrongs once inflicted on him by his malicious uncle Ælfric, and so he heads to Northumbria to avenge the hardships of his early childhood. But neither the bull's determination nor the knight's hot-bloodedness will be of any use if he lets his guard down. Ironically, instead of the throne of Bebbanburg, he sits at the oar of a slave ship from which there is apparently no escape except as a corpse thrown overboard. Uhtred, however, is determined to persevere with his plan and searches where the carpenter left the hole. And he'll get lucky. For another battle is about to take place that could decide the fate of England - and he is not going to miss it...
