Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra: The Only One - CD
The Dutch composer Louis Andriessen and the American publishing house Nonesuch have a long-standing successful collaboration. Basically, all of Andriessen' s big recording projects were realized on this label, and this is no different in the case of his latest album “The Only One“. The recording of this work was made live in May 2019 in the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles with the participation of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Finnish conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen with soloist Nora Fischer. According to Andriessen, Fischerová, who started in her native Amsterdam as a classical soprano and gradually expanded her interest to various multi-genre projects, was one of the two main inspirations for the creation of his composition. The second was the collection “De dieren in mij“ (“Animals in me“) by the Flemish poet Delphine Lecompte. “These funny, intelligent and experimental poems immediately fascinated me,“ says the composer. If your recordings have passed you so far, the album “The Only One“ may well serve as an example of his compositional style. It is a distinctive, sometimes completely original and sometimes acknowledged eclectic mixture, which in this case consciously flirts with pop elements. In addition to them, we will also hear quotes from older works by Andriessen, traces of jazz, minimalism or Mexican music.
