Love's Remedy

The Anti-Resolution a.k.a. what not to do.

‘You’re a really nice girl, but I don’t think we should see each other anymore.’ The message ended and I froze in the dentist's chair as I realised… I'd just been dumped live on the radio.
It took my boyfriend breaking up with me in the most humiliating way possible to make me realise my life needed a complete overhaul.
And I started with some New Year's anti-resolutions that even I couldn’t fail:
1. I will stop dating (men are awful).
2. I will stop trying to lose weight (I’m never giving up chocolate).
3. I will stop working so hard (selling mortgages is not my dream job).
4. I will stop trying to live up to someone's unrealistic expectations (I’ll start living the best I can).
5. I will stop trying to please my mother (it's not possible).
But number five turns out to be harder than it seemed when my mother launches a campaign to get me back with my ex. So, what's the best way to get her to stop meddling in my life? Make up a boyfriend – well, he was supposed to be made up until I blurted out my neighbour's name.

Sharon M. Peterson

Sharon M. Peterson is a former high school teacher, and she has the scars to prove it. One of her favourite quotes is from Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath: “She had a habit of making a little bit of laughter out of inadequate materials.” She tries to tackle life that way and create characters who do the same. She lives in Washington with her husband and four children, including two autistic sons. She has one cat, two dogs, one tattoo, and an intense fear of poodles (don't ask). You can usually find her hunched over her computer, creating characters and stories that she hopes you'll love as much as she does.
