May Day

New York, May Day 1919. Gordon Sterrett, a returned soldier, goes to see Philip Dean, his old friend from college. Gordon is in trouble and asks the wealthy Dean to lend him some money. The money would ensure that Gordon could follow his dreams and become an artist. Dean, however, does not want to lend Gordon the money. Despite this, the two men end up going to a party together. They don't yet know that this very day will go down in history—huge riots are erupting in another part of the country as people from lower classes start to claim their rights. 'May Day' is a political short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
