When Monika Šeberová decides to fulfil her dream of renovating an abandoned First Republic villa, she has no idea that much more than just peeling walls and clutter awaits her. The house holds secrets, and they refuse to stay buried. As if that weren't enough, terrifying stories of mysterious disappearances attract a group of teenagers whose investigation sets a chain of strange events in motion.

Jarmila Stráníková
Jarmila Stráníková was born in Jeseník and spent her childhood in Moravia and Silesia, which is clearly reflected in her books, where she enjoys returning to the places she has formed a connection with. She began with the adventure novel 'Ve stínu války' (In the Shadow of War), inspired not only by historical events that took place in Javorník in Silesia during the Thirty Years' War, but mainly by one of the mysterious local legends. Two years later, in 2023, her second book was published – the novel 'Balada pro Emily' (A Ballad for Emily), which, like her previous book, is set in places she knew very well. However, unlike her historical, perhaps somewhat romantic debut, this is a story of a completely different kind. A dark, mysterious thriller inspired by true events.
