Metapragmatic phenomena and Czech

This study follows on from the author's previous publications in the field of linguistic pragmatics (Pragmatics in Czech, The Czech Sentence at the Interface between Grammar and Pragmatics) and from several papers published in recent years. The final chapter of Pragmatics in Czech briefly drew attention to partial metapragmatic topics, and the present monograph deals with this issue in great detail. The analysis of the texts used shows that the meta-approach not only represents a different angle on language use, but also makes it possible to place earlier observations and analyses into a systematic framework and to capture the relationships between phenomena in which reflection on individual aspects of usage is manifested. The presentation of such a framework, which differentiates the various indicators of metapragmatic awareness and shows their interaction, can be considered the contribution of the metapragmatic approach of this publication. It demonstrates that the metapragmatic approach does not contradict the basic topics of linguistic pragmatics, but rather complements them.
