Milford scandal
A detective story from the English countryside.
Two respectable ladies from Milford are accused of kidnapping a 15-year-old girl. So they hire lawyer Robert Blair to clear their name.
Robert Blair, a lover of the quiet life with the security of cakes on a platter and a lawyer at the venerable Milford law firm of Blair, Hayward and Bennet, gets a phone call shortly before leaving the office. Miss Sharp is calling for help. The lawyer's conviction that this is a mere traffic violation soon dissipates. An elderly lady and her mother were accused of kidnapping by the police! When the lawyer arrives at the Sharps' house, the police tell him that a 15-year-old girl waiting for a bus was offered a ride in a car by two ladies a few days earlier. She arrived at her relatives' house, where she was heading, forty-eight hours later, impoverished and exhausted. Will the Sharpe ladies be able to clear their name? In a pleasantly flowing narrative, reminiscent of Agatha Christie's school, all brain cells must be put on alert to get to the bottom of the mystery.
