Miloslav Nevrlý: Carpathian Games

Almost 40 years have passed since Miloslav Nevrlý wrote The Carpathian Games, the landscape of the Romanian Carpathians has changed in many ways since then, but when reading the book, it comes alive with nostalgia as the author himself saw it with his own eyes and felt it on his own body and soul. From the book about wandering through the wild nature of the Romanian Carpathians read by Ivan Řezáč. Miloslav Nevrlý confesses his love for the beautiful landscape. He wanders through the mountains, mostly alone, and bask in the wilderness, by walking, by the sun, by mountain streams, steep mountain peaks, People, he meets, by its own existence, of joy, alone. He describes the places he passes through with poetic images, all of which imprint themselves in an inimitable way on the heart of the traveller. The journey is enriched by games, which the author encourages the reader to play, addressing him as "little brother": A game of light-hearted pilgrim, A game of kings and kings, A game of morning joy? Each of them captures a different wisdom, a different mood of the pilgrim. The Carpathian Games were first published in 1981 as a guide for alpine hikers. Other people, however, copied whole chapters from them, went to Romania with them, or played Carpathian games on their travels elsewhere.
