Murder in the grave
The brutal murder of a young chaplain
Inspector Haze and Lord Redmond must find out how a young chaplain got into a freshly dug grave that was meant for someone else. The poor clergyman, who had only recently arrived in the English village of Upper Finchley, was regarded by his family and acquaintances as a good-hearted saint completely devoted to God and good works.
However, the brutally executed murder and the fact that the perpetrator felt the need to cover the corpse with a layer of dirt suggest that even those closest to him may not have known who they were dealing with. Daniel and Jason have been searching in vain for the killer in the sweltering summer heat for a long time, and DCI Coleridge is increasingly insistent that they finally solve the case.
They will need deeper insight into the life of Sebastian Slade if they are to reach a successful conclusion. They discover that even God's servants have their dark secrets and that the final reckoning can take on biblical proportions.
