Tommy and Dandelion search a seaside resort for a wartime spy
From the gallery of detectives that enriched the genre of crime stories by its most famous author, Agatha Christie, Tommy and Quince Beresford stand out in at least two ways. Firstly, they are a married couple, and secondly, they appear in five books in the natural course of time. So while in the first book, The Secret Adversary, we meet them shortly after the First World War as a young, not-yet-married couple, in the final story, The Gate of Destiny, they retire to the countryside for a well-earned rest. There, too, a detective case naturally awaits them, because Tommy and Pentliceka are attracted to adventure. And not only that, it was in the stories of this duo that Christie ventured into a genre where she was not entirely at home. Secret Service, foreign agents, of a secret international intelligence network, spy plot, it was a literary environment, that she didn't move in with such confidence.
She was all the more tempted. In the exposition story, the cheerful and plain-spoken Dandelion is still introduced by her maiden name, Prudence Cowley. He and his friend Tommy embark on a semi-serious business project called Adventurers with. r. o. and they're gonna place an ad. When they are approached by a mysterious stranger, they are unaware that they are caught up in a game of espionage in which they are ultimately led by an equally mysterious man from British intelligence. And it is he who addresses Tommy at the moment when Britain is under attack by the German Nazis.
The year is 1941 and two spies from their own ranks have been activated in a sleepy seaside resort. Who the mysterious N and M are can only be found out by someone from outside the secret service. Without hesitation, Tommy embarks on a secret mission that not even his faithful wife, Pentlica, can know about.
