New Order / Joy Division: Total (2018 Edition) (2x LP) - LP

The singles compilation, Total, was originally released in 2011 only on CD. Now, this collection of Joy Division and New Order recordings is available on vinyl for the first time.

Joy Division formed in 1976 in Salford, a town near Manchester, England. The quartet of Ian Curtis (vocals), Bernard Sumner (guitar, keyboards), Peter Hook (bass), and Stephen Morris (drums) initially called themselves Warsaw. Joy Division's music grew from punk roots, and the group is still considered the most distinctive and influential post-punk band of the late seventies and early eighties. Joy Division recorded two studio albums, but their activity ended in 1980 when singer Ian Curtis committed suicide. From the ashes of Joy Division, another significant icon of British music was later born: the band New Order. As one of the pivotal bands in British music history, they initially combined post-punk with electronica, later experimenting mainly with what modern technology had to offer. Their 1983 hit, Blue Monday, remains the best-selling 12-inch single of all time.
