New trends in analgosedation
The monograph offers the reader much more than the title promises. It is not only a simple manual for administering sedation and analgesia during routine medical practice in various fields, but also contains little-known facts from animal experiments and clinical studies.
In the general part, in addition to a brief history, individual types of analgosedation are defined and legislative contexts are presented. The principles of safe analgosedation performed by non-anesthesiologists outside of inpatient facilities are also mentioned. a detailed overview of the advantages and disadvantages of various methods of drug administration from standard (oral, intramuscular, intravenous) to non-traditional (nasal, buccal, sublingual, conjunctival) along with examples of use and safety features important for practice when used on the patient. An overview of complications directly related to analgosedation and the possibilities of their management is available, and analgosedation in special situations (pre-hospital care, emergency admission, aggressive patient) is also mentioned.
The special section provides a detailed description of pharmaceuticals and their combinations for traditional and non-traditional methods of administration. Detailed pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data are provided for each drug, accompanied by examples from experimental or clinical use. This overview, in its scope and detail, surpasses most common pharmacology textbooks describing the same drugs, and thus represents a unique opportunity to expand the knowledge of physicians in the fields that use the mentioned drugs. The clinical part presents practical procedures for analgosedation based on the authors' extensive experience.
There is no book in current Czech literature that deals in detail with conscious sedation, although the number of procedures performed in it is constantly increasing across medical fields. The book can be recommended not only to anesthesiologists, but also to all non-anesthesiologists who will use it as a manual when administering analgosedation.
