Night Watch
The hunt for justice in the days of magic and the secret police
Right! Justice! Freedom! And hard-boiled eggs! The twenty-fifth of May began like any other day for Captain Samuel Elanio. He found a captured Assassin's Guild hit man in one of his home traps, put on a clean uniform and headed to an office full of busy cops, persistent complainers and tedious paperwork. But a life of routine alongside his pregnant wife is coming to an end - all it takes is a rooftop chase with the mad killer Karcer and a single flash of magic. The persuasive Ellenius falls back thirty years, to a time of secret police, dark cells and carefully sealed walls, but also of revolutionary ideas and hope. This is where he has to track down Karcer and bring him up to date. But there's a catch: the course of events has changed. In order to have a place to return to, Elanius has to take a sniveling young ear named Sam under his wing and raise him to be a proper cop. And, of course, to survive the whole thing twice... The twenty-ninth volume of the Amazing Earth series is one of Pratchett's crowning achievements and, according to many readers and reviewers, is considered his best novel ever. It won the Prometheus 2023 Award and is the 12th title on the Locus magazine's list of 21st century genre literature.

They wrote about the book:
The Night Watch turned out to be an unexpectedly moving novel about self-sacrifice and responsibility, the last scenes of which will bring you to tears. Pratchett may be considered by many to be a humorist, but there is actually much, much more to his books.
