OD: Baby Lune - CD

The album Bébé Lune is a sensitive presentation by singer and instrumentalist Ód of lullabies from France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Romania, Canada, Mexico, Mongolia, Algeria, India, Guadeloupe and Tanzania. In delicate and sublime harmonies, Ód accompanies her voice with the transverse flute, xylophone and keyboards, and even features the mbira and balalaika. The listener can be surprised by how she has managed to tackle the pronunciation of languages, not all of which she speaks herself, and by how different the songs people on Earth sing for a good night's sleep can be. “When, after 30 years, I heard the lullaby my mum used to sing to me as a child again, it gave me goosebumps and moved me. I realised how deeply something as small as a song can imprint itself on the soul. I see Bébé Lune as more than an album of lullabies. For me, it is a collection of songs from around the world, a collection of poetic texts in foreign languages. It can be a musical and meditative escape or perhaps an invitation to an imaginary journey, a wandering through the world, not just for children and those who can't sleep,” says Ód, describing what was at the beginning of her latest musical project. Ód worked on the album throughout 2020. After her concept, 'Lullabies from the World', won the “Expats for Brno” innovative project competition, she invited friends and strangers to share their favourite goodnight songs with her. During face-to-face meetings, she had them sing the songs to her and advise her on pronunciation and accent to make her voice sound as authentic as possible. In the summer, she recorded with Jarda Svoboda, and worked with Jon Heyes on mastering the tracks. She collaborated with illustrator Petra Jiroušková on the beautiful concertina-format booklet. The result is an album of 18 songs from 15 countries. In several songs, you will hear Beata Bocek and Maria Svobodová singing with Ód, with guitar accompaniment by Chris Coleman. Ód, whose real name is Aude Stulírová Martin, is French and has been living in Brno since 2011. She founded the band Šarivary and the theatre company Le Cabaret Nomade, composes music for theatre performances and worked for six years as the programmer for the Bonjour Brno festival. Bébé Lune is her second album.
