Oldfield Mike: Discovery (Re-edition 2016) - LP

“Discovery“ is the ninth studio album by British multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield. It was released in the summer of 1984 and ranked 15th in the UK album sales chart in July of that year.

The album was recorded in the Swiss Alps over Lake Geneva near Oldfield' s then home, where he lived for some time due to taxes.

Discovery has the typical structure of Oldfield' s albums of the first half of the 1980s, although in this case slightly altered. On the first half of the album (the first page of the LP) there are sung songs. The second part of the album consists not only of a long instrumental composition, as is the case with previous albums, but of two more songs and then only a half-shortened instrumental composition.

The relatively successful song “To France“, sung by Maggie Reilly, comes from this album. She performs on about half of the songs on Discovery, the other is sung by Barry Palmer.
