Olympic: Pták Rosomák - CD

Olympic's second legendary album in an anniversary re-edition with nine super bonuses.

Fifty years after its original release, Pták Rosomák (The Wolverine Bird), Olympic's more musically mature project, is being re-released in 2019. It was the last album recorded in the classic line-up, featuring bassist, singer, and lyricist Pavel Chrastina.
By 1968, the invigorated rockers had experienced a period of temporary cultural relaxation and brief international exposure. This is why we can see inspiration from the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper, as well as influences from the sitar music of India and hippie-era San Francisco.
Either way, it is a listening experience with the hallmark of Czech 'bigbít', built on the unmistakable songs of the essential writing and performing duo Janda-Chrastina, sympathetically complemented vocally by Jan "Sorry" Pacák and Ladislav Klein.

The vinyl version offers reconstructed sound and cover art, this time supplemented in a re-edition for the first time with the original cut-out of the Wolverine Bird, designed to spin on the turntable.
The CD's running time includes nine bonuses: alongside alternative Czech versions of some of the original songs, it also features singles and tracks related in time to the album's recording and release. These demonstrate Olympic's progress in composition, instrumentation, and sound, while the English version of 'Krásná neznámá' (Beautiful Stranger) also reflects the lyrical response to the hopes that were rapidly lost after the August 1968 invasion.

This is most likely the last re-edition of Pták Rosomák on physical media, and it provides a necessarily expanded look back at a groundbreaking album: without Chrastina, who later emigrated, many things were different.
