Olympic: Trilobit - CD

Olympic's new album presents fourteen fresh tracks by Petr Janda, stylistically summarising the band's entire rock era. From simple sixties pop tunes and touching ballads in the style of the seventies and eighties, to proper, high-energy, fast-paced hard rock guitar tracks, and even logical life reflections—all under the banner of "New Energy".

This energy was also boosted by a trio of overseas guests. For the first time in Olympic's history, the music producer is someone from outside the band—Czech native Mirek Váňa, who has strong American contacts at the Berklee College of Music. Together with Janda, he brought in excellent Boston reinforcements in the form of guitarist Alex Darson and keyboardist Eren Basbug, whose friendly duels with Olympic's classic lineup are a truly welcome revival.

Lyrically, the team is proven in both theme and experience: Janda himself, as usual, Ondřej Fencl on many tracks, with contributions also from Miroslav Černý, Vlasta Henych, and old friend Pavel Chrastina on the final, unexpectedly bluesy song. From the opening, slightly bizarre ode to a trilobite, this album is a charming testament to the incredible fact that even after fifty-five years and hundreds of songs, Olympic remains admirably full of life.
