On a knife-edge
Her life was a dance on the point of a needle, an eminent position where losing your balance means a bloody fall. It began in the worst possible way: without a mother’s hug, and with a father whose love for her was so great it almost destroyed her. Involuntarily married to a Red Army officer, she endured hell. The tyranny of a psychopath drove her to a psychiatric hospital. Completely paralysed by the horror she had experienced, she stopped communicating. Her fingers, threads, and fabric became her only link to the outside world. She embroidered, and embroidered, and embroidered… This trauma was the catalyst for an unhappy woman's transformation into a world-renowned artist. Inspired by a true story, the novel begins in the 1930s, guiding the reader through the cruel fifties, the liberated sixties, the era of Normalisation, and culminating in the new, free millennium.
