Pilgrims from the Holy Land
The discovery of Latin manuscripts from the beginning of the 15th century at the castle in Český Krumlov recently caused a stir in specialist historical circles. They were originally considered religious tracts written as a polemic against the views of Jan Hus and his followers. A more careful translation, however, revealed that it is in fact the memoirs of the Rosenberg Franciscan friar Blasius, a Franciscan friar, about the criminal cases he once helped his friend Jakub Protiv of Protivec, a swift man in Prague's New Town. The first of these was the case of pilgrims from the Holy Land who, on their return from places associated with the life of Jesus Christ and his apostles, stopped for a time in Prague. Coincidentally, these pious men and women came under suspicion for great robberies and bloody murders. But what was the truth?
