Practical immunohematology - erythrocytes

In addition to the necessary theoretical foundation, this publication provides a range of practical knowledge and experience from the field of erythrocyte immunohaematology. It offers a clear overview of blood group systems and other erythrocyte antigens, including their clinical significance and functions. Separate chapters are dedicated to the immunohaematological aspects of transfusions, post-transfusion immune reactions of the red blood cell line, autoimmune haemolytic anaemias, and haemolytic disease of the foetus and new-born.

A large part of the textbook is devoted to investigative methods in immunohaematology, including the wide spectrum of problems and pitfalls associated with their implementation and their clinical overlap. It also includes a number of special immunohaematological methods.

The appendices provide a detailed description of selected laboratory methods and cases from clinical practice. Individual chapters conclude with short review tests.
This is a unique textbook in the history of the Czech Republic. Such a clear and detailed professional book dealing with the fundamental pillar of transfusion medicine, with overlaps into other medical fields, has not been published in either the Czech or Slovak Republics. The first edition of this textbook was met with great interest from the professional community and sold out quickly. The demand from many experts was therefore not satisfied.

The second edition is enriched and expanded with new knowledge that has emerged in immunohaematology over the last five years, both theoretically and practically, including diagnostic procedures. For greater didactic clarity, the second edition has been newly supplemented with examples from practice and case studies.

The textbook, with its rich pictorial appendix, is intended for a wide range of readers, from doctors dealing with immunohaematological topics in their practice (haematologists, intensivists, internists, obstetricians and others) to medical laboratory technicians and bioanalysts.
