Prisoner at Křivoklát

Florian Griesbeck of Griesbach, the reputed counsellor of King Ferdinand, is a skilful diplomat and knows how to flatter his king. He is therefore put in charge of the problem of non-Catholic states in Bohemia. As a Catholic and a grateful subject, he will undertake this task with due zeal. The focus of his interest is the Bishop of the Bohemian Brothers, Jan Augusta, together with his faithful servant Jakub Bílek. However, this young man has a private problem to solve besides the persecution of his own followers - he is in love with Griesbeck's daughter, Joan. When Griesbeck succeeds in getting Bishop Augusta and his brother Bílko imprisoned in Křivoklát, all hope seems to be lost for all concerned.
