"(pronounced lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd)" is the debut studio album by American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, released on 13 August 1973, nine years after the band was formed.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American southern rock band. A group of teenagers consisting of Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Allen Collins (guitar), Gary Rossington (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass guitar), and Bob Burns (drums) formed the student band in Jacksonville, Florida in the summer of 1964 under the name "My Backyard". Their music was inspired by British Invasion beat groups such as Free, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles, alongside other musical genres like southern blues and country & western.

Before settling on "Leonard Skinnerd", the band went through names like "One Percent" and "Noble Five". The name is a mock tribute to Leonard Skinner, a physical education teacher and basketball coach at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, who penalised Rossington and Burns for wearing their hair long. The school rules did not permit hair to touch the school uniform. This name was later tweaked into the final, distinctively southern-spelled "Lynyrd Skynyrd".

The band rose to worldwide prominence mainly in the 1970s, best known for their signature songs "Free Bird" and "Sweet Home Alabama". Guitar World magazine ranks the guitar solo in "Free Bird" third on its list of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
