Moments that don't matter. Until irreversibility gives them meaning.
Our twentieth century has been full of struggles, defeats, victories, but above all paradoxes, often lurking in the shadows of great historical events. The book Republic, through which the well-known writer, publisher and holder of numerous literary awards Jiří Padevět takes us to the period between 1918-1990, attempts to bring our modern history closer to us in the space of 73 short stories.
They talk about moments, that are irrelevant to the "big" story, banal, but from a human perspective, who lived through them, were, on the contrary, absolutely essential. They have often changed the lives of their actors in unexpected and drastic ways. Both towards despair and towards a hope that endures.
