Rieu André: Moonlight Serenade (2x CD) - CD

André Rieu - the uncrowned king of world waltzes, who has sold more than 100 million albums in the last 20 years, is releasing a new album enriched with a concert DVD from Australia. This album has already been released in the UK and was nominated for “Album of the Year“ at the Classic Brit Awards.

A native of Maastricht, the Netherlands, violinist, composer, arranger and conductor André Leon Marie Nicolas Rieu, earned the nickname King of the Waltzes in the early 1990s, when he began to specialize in the so-called light classics, especially to the Viennese salon music of years long past. And he has had unexpected success with her literally all over the world. Just to illustrate these words: last year' s album Forever Vienna reached number two on the best-selling albums in the UK and was fourth in the Republic of Ireland, scoring high in the Australian charts in the same year ( Masterpieces at number 9 and You' ll Never Walk Alone at number 2), in In 2008, he was even the first of the opponents with the title Waltzing Matilda and also the second with the album The 100 Most Beautiful Melodies.

André Rieu comes from a branched family of musicians. His father worked as a conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra and also conducted the Leipzig Opera Orchestra, with virtually all of Andre' s siblings playing music. André Rieu composed his first salon ensemble in 1982 and with several personnel changes it lasted until 1987. The predominantly violin cast was dominated by the playing of solo violin, cello, double bass and piano, and a trumpet or carillon appeared here and there to make the sound special. That was also when Rieu made his first gramophone recordings. However, André Rieu became world-famous at the head of his large orchestra, which he named the “historic“ name Johann Strauss Orchestra. It was created in 1987 and the repertoire was actually predetermined - it consists of compositions by Johann Strauss supplemented by compositions by several other authors, mostly lighter classics and operettas. The orchestra originally had twelve musicians, but later grew to a 40-member and 50-member cast, respectively. Shortly after its inception, the Rie Orchestra embarked on its first large-scale European concert tour, which aroused unimagined interest in waltzes, which, according to many, were supposed to be dusty forever. According to Rieu' s violin (an instrument from Antonio Stadivari' s workshop in 1667 at a brother' s cost of two million euros), Europe began to dance the waltz again. This wave soon spread to the United States and Japan, and more recently to Australia. Rieu played with his orchestra for the first time there in September 2007, and by the end of the following year, a record 38,000 visitors had come to his concert in Melbourne! And since Rieu is no bit of a rogue, his orchestra' s performance called Romantic Vienna Night was complemented on stage by a huge replica of Vienna' s Schönbrunn Palace, two ice rinks full of skaters, two fountains and a huge dance floor.
