The film Rio is the story of a rare parrot named Blu, who lives in a small town with his mistress Linda, with whom he forms an inseparable couple. Linda saved him years ago from smugglers who, as a baby parrot, caught him in the middle of a Brazilian forest and took him to snowy Minnesota. Blu had never learned to fly because of it, but he had settled in the safety and comfort of Linda' s home so much that it was no problem for him to make coffee, make breakfast, brush his teeth, or serve Linda as her personal alarm clock. When one day Linda and Blu discover that Blu is not the last parrot of its kind in the world, as they thought so far, they do not hesitate and set out on a journey to exotic Brazil to see the Pearl Parrot, which lives in the very heart of Rio de Janeiro. Shortly after their meeting, however, Blu and Perla are abducted by a group of animal traders. With the help of clever and life-hardened Pearls and a bunch of talkative city birds, they manage to escape, but they definitely don' t win. Can Blu, with the help of new friends, find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the plans of the kidnappers who are still after them, and return to his beloved mistress Linda?

Rare blue parrots Blu and Perla live a peaceful city home in Rio, Brazil. Their three children gradually grow up with them. The youngest Raubíř is true to his name and longs for adventure, especially if something can be destroyed a little. Another is Bia, who has stumbled a bit, thanks to which he understands everything and knows everything he doesn' t know, he quickly studies it. The eldest of the children is Karel, who thinks that she has reached the age when she should slowly break out from under her parents' protective wings and start expressing her personality - for example with the help of music. When Perla decides that everyone must learn to live like real birds, it is only a step to a fundamental decision - to go on a family trip to the Amazon jungle. Although Blu hears from his friends a lot of reasons why he shouldn' t go anywhere and what dangers await them there. But in the end, he arranges according to toucan Rafael and his advice that a happy wife means a happy life. And so they find themselves in the Amazon jungle, where they meet their relatives a little unexpectedly, ending their belief that they are the last blue parrots in the world. What' s more, Blu doesn' t feel very confident in the jungle. On the one hand, he must unexpectedly face his most feared adversary - his father-in-law - and at the same time avoid the devilish plans for retaliation that Nigel from Padua and the vengeful cockatoo have drawn for him.
