Schelinger Jiri: Pigeon House - LP

The "Best of" Jiří Schelinger, back on vinyl after 30 years!

In 1990, an LP was released that presented a cross-section of the musical legacy of the singer, who by that time had sadly been gone for almost a decade, a singer with a talent for both pure pop and hard rock. Schelinger's brother Milan expertly selected fourteen tracks, from his debut hit Holubí dům (Pigeon House) to hints of the direction his path might have taken, namely the Zemětřesení (Earthquake) project.
This reissue preserves the original content, mixed non-chronologically but in a way that listeners will appreciate. Accompanied for the vast majority of tracks by F. R. Čech's band, Schelinger delivered an unmistakable performance in slightly comedic songs, in rock that was quite loud for its time, and also in ballads, where he ranks among our absolute all-time greats.

The cover has been partially reconstructed, as the original graphic assets were not preserved. The new-old design is based exclusively on photographs by Otto Dlabola, who shared a long-standing professional friendship with Jiří Schelinger.
In addition to the iconic cover portrait, the back of the outer sleeve and the inner sleeve itself provide evidence of the singer's physical, and indeed, repertoire-based transformations. These evolved from a handsome representative of danceable bubble-gum pop to the moustachioed, thoughtful creator he was just before his tragic death. The album thus represents a musical and visual look back at the sadly short but fulfilled life of an extraordinary singer and gifted composer, one of those who managed to brighten the gloom of the 'Normalisation' era of the seventies.
Maximum vinyl playing time, remastered sound, and an inner sleeve with photographs.
