Seahawk
This romantic adventure story is set at the close of the sixteenth century during the reign of Elizabeth I. Oliver Tressilian is betrothed to the beautiful Rosamund, who returns his love despite her brother's hatred. When her brother is murdered, the blame falls on Oliver. Rosamund does not believe him, and his life is turned to ruin.
Betrayed and sold into slavery, Oliver finds himself in the Mediterranean, in Algiers – a vibrant city full of intrigue, passion, and a clash of cultures. There he becomes the feared Muslim corsair, Sakr-el-Bahr, or “The Sea Hawk”. He encounters the hostility of the pasha's jealous wife and once again fights for his love, who rejects him. He is not easy to love: he is hard and ruthless. In the end, the Pasha of Algiers himself is after his life.
The novel was adapted into a Hollywood film of the same name in 1940, starring Errol Flynn and Brenda Marshall.
