Shadows Over Pecan Hollow

It was 1970 when thirteen-year-old Kit Walker was abducted by the petty thief Manny Romero. Craving the family and security she never had, Kit allows him to spoil her and is gradually lured into becoming his partner in crime. The two soon become infamous as the “Texaco Duo” for a string of petrol station robberies across Texas. But when Manny’s paternal approach turns into something darker and more violent, Kit must re-evaluate their relationship. She abandons Manny during a botched robbery. Over the thirteen years since her escape, she has built a new life for herself and her daughter amongst the pecan trees and muddy creeks of Pecan Hollow. But then the “new” Manny, freshly released from prison, suddenly appears on her doorstep. The deep, twisted bond she has with him forces her to let him in. Her world changes in an instant, and Kit is forced to reckon with the shadows of her past.
Gritty, poignant, and unexpectedly tender, Pecan Hollow is a disturbingly intimate and uniquely original debut novel about the complexities of love—both romantic and maternal—and the bonds that shape us.
