Shogun (5DVD) - DVD
Ten hours of spectacular adventure.
A spectacular American miniseries about the fate of an English sailor shipwrecked off the coast of Japan in the 17th century, who made a major intervention in the War of Power.
One windy night in 1600, the Dutch ship Erasmus is wrecked off the coast of East Japan while trying to circumnavigate the world. Its commander, one of the leading European pilots, the Englishman John Blackthorne, thus becomes a "prisoner of the Japanese islands", but he does not accept the role of an idle observer. Blackthorne's skills and knowledge soon intervene substantially in the still undecided struggle for control of Japan, which is being waged between the most influential samurai and in which the Jesuits are also involved with their considerable influence.
It is a cruel, unrelenting and unforgiving struggle, full of pitfalls and intrigue - for at stake is nothing less than the title of Shogun, before which all Japan will bow. Just as the exotic European is irrevocably changing the Land of the Rising Sun, Blackthorne's thinking and feeling is also undergoing a transformation. Gradually he begins to understand and respect the Japanese sense of dignity and courtesy, discovers a new beauty and harmony, and his ideas about sex, religion and death are completely transformed.
