Siren - DVD

Siren - DVD
The story of the film takes place in Kladno in 1889. The Hudec family lives in poverty like most working-class families. The father spends his wages in the pub and the responsibility remains with the mother, who takes care of her son Rudolf and daughters Růžena and Emma.
The difficult situation forces the miners to go on strike - the main impulse is the suicide of the miner Černý. The strikers break into the mine manager's villa and smash everything up. The workers are scattered by the army with gunfire and one of Hudec's daughters loses her life.
Siren is a unique work that has not aged at all. Its strength is its compelling visual depiction of the working-class environment and the motives of people driven by a hopeless situation to act on instinct. The film rightfully won the 1947 VIII. IFF in Venice Grand Prix and Film Music Award, at the same time in the same year Marie Majerová, Karel Steklý, Jaroslav Tuzar, E. F. Burian and Marie Vášová.
