Škoda 706 RO and RTO buses
The bus icons Škoda 706 RO and Škoda 706 RTO still delight the eye of both the older and younger generations. The Škoda 706 RO bus was characterised by a very progressive cabover design for its time. It began mass production not long after the end of World War II: first at the Avia factory in Letňany, Prague, and later also at Sodomek's coachbuilding plant in Vysoké Mýto (which was renamed Karosa, a national enterprise, after the so-called Victorious February).
The RTO bus was built in the mid-1950s at Karosa Vysoké Mýto (now IVECO Czech Republic) and was equipped with an exceptionally successful timeless body. The book is equally devoted to both types, their individual designs and specials, which were produced from components of both the RO and RTO series. The discussion of licensed products of both types, which were produced in Bulgaria or Poland, for example, is not left out.
