Sluk: Ornaments - CD

The paths of folk music are similar to the paths of substances, spices, fruits and plants, myths and fairy tales, ideas about the world and aesthetic ideals, that have shaped the image of Slovak traditional and folk culture for centuries. Gajdy, multivoiced singing, Cashmere, Silk, sea shells and pearls, peacock feathers, vanilla, Badian, biblical parables and prophecies. All this is also found in our national tradition, from folk music and singing to embroidery and costumes to traditional cuisine. These are the inherent tastes, colours and tones whose subtle essences reach all our senses. They manifest themselves most often in two forms - in a sense of exoticism and at the same time (paradoxically) in an attempt to demonstrate one's own identity and personal originality. They are ornaments. With the musical project Ornaments, SĽUK's dramaturgy wants to present SĽUK's folk music in a separate programme in conjunction with the excellent ethno jazz formation Pacora Trio and the exceptional multi-instrumentalist Mark Pastírik. At the same time, it is an effort to seek and find new artistic contexts and stylistic possibilities offered by folk music. The authors of the music are Stano Palúch (1977) and Marek Pastírik (1979). Both artists permanently refer in their work not only to the intimate domestic musical tradition, but also to the aesthetics and poetics of classical music, jazz and ethnic music of the Carpathian arch. The live concert of the musical project Ornaments is complemented by the visual concept of the leading graphic designer and visual artist Jan Šick (1977).

Folk music by SĽUK: Zuzana Pokorná (1. violin); Jozef Lednický (1. violin, vocal); Peter Rogel (2. violin); Peter Mikulec (viola); Matej Šajgalík (viola); Andrej Jarolín (cimbalom, wind chimes); Pavel Vician (double bass); Hana Varmužová (transverse flute); Eva Miskovicova (vocal)
