Society of Nausea
The Society of Nausea contains a selection of essays by Václav Bělohradský
The book is a collection of essays by a well-known author who reflects on the problems of modern society through various literary forms (interviews, newspaper essays, reflections). He takes note of contemporary tendencies and trends in society and draws attention to the problems, the main of which he sees in the tendency to define ourselves from the world as a common, shared space and in the tendency to close ourselves off into private sub-worlds. The individual essays show how this separative trend affects all areas of human life. Most of the essays published here appeared in abridged versions in the decade 1997-2007 in Salon, a literary supplement to Thursday's Práva. An interview with Jiří Rulf was published in the weekly Reflex, an interview with Barbora Osvaldová in the magazine Xantypa, and an essay "The Gender of Reason" in the anthology New Reading of the World I, edited by Marie Chřibková. The reflections here appear in a more elaborate and complete form than in Salon, where they had to be shortened or modified for technical reasons.
For the second edition of this successful book (2009), the author reworked many of the essays. Each subsequent edition the author has added a new text "Instead of an introduction? and thanks to this latest edition the reader can get acquainted with the author's reflections from the first edition in 2007 to the present.
As Václav Bělohradský states at the beginning of the book: "The first edition of this book was published at the very end of 2007, the malaise I reflect on in it has since changed shape. It has become a liquid rage, it floods the whole society, it wants to vent itself, but it has no object that we can call by name and point the finger at. ”
The audiobook Society of Nausea is a selection of essays from the book.
In the audiobook, the author deals with the problems of contemporary society, and these are not easy topics, so let's listen to the recommendation of Václav Bělohradský himself and sip red wine while listening to this challenging reading.
