Homicide chief Marcus Jacobsen meets with his top investigator Carl Mørck over a case that has deeply impressed him. A nasty tangle of cases begins to grow under the Q staff's hands. A special assignment forces Carl, Asad, Rose and Gordon to pull together tightly.
After the Q department delves into investigating the deaths of prominent figures that have been previously thought to be suicides or accidents, they uncover a far worse pattern of behavior and all indications are that another person will soon die. In order to prevent a cruel death, they embark on a vicious fight for time in a difficult time of anti-human measures with a typical dose of humour and cohesion. Meanwhile, a very different case emerges from Carl's past like a snake that has finally scented its prey.
